Fence Installation in Browns Summit, NC
Browns Summit is the part of Guilford County where the map goes green. North of the city the subdivisions thin out and give way to wooded parcels, pasture, working land, and the water around Lake Townsend. Houses sit back from the road, driveways get long, and the fence usually has a functional job rather than a decorative one.
Every lot is a different problem
There is no standard fence line here. One property has a clear pasture and a straight boundary that just needs marking. The next has a rear line disappearing into hardwoods where every post location has to negotiate with a root system. A third sits close enough to the water that setbacks and buffers need checking before anything gets set in concrete. We look at the parcel before quoting rather than pricing off a footage number over the phone, because out here the ground drives the price more than the material does.
Farm fencing handles boundaries and livestock over distance. Wood covers the enclosed yard where privacy or containment matters, and board-on-board reads the same from both directions, which is worth something when the neighbor is a quarter mile away and the fence is visible from the road. Ornamental aluminum finished with SolarShield goes in where the point is to define a yard without giving up the view, which on a wooded north-county lot is often the whole reason the owner bought the place.
Wet clay, hard freezes, and standing water
The low ground on a wooded parcel stays wet. Piedmont red clay does not drain, and under tree cover it dries slowly, so posts in those stretches sit in saturated soil for long periods. When a hard freeze comes through, that water expands and lifts. Over a few winters it turns a straight run into a wandering one. We set every post in concrete below the frost line and go deeper where the ground is soft, and corner and gate posts get set heavier than the rest. The weather here does the rest of the testing. Humid summers, thunderstorms that shove against anything solid, tropical remnants that occasionally reach this far inland, and the January ice that loads a top rail with weight nobody designed for. A fence survives all of that on its footings.

Browns Summit Fence Questions
My property is near Lake Townsend. Are there restrictions on where I can build?
There can be. Land around a municipal water supply often carries buffer and setback requirements, and those apply to structures whether or not the owner is aware of them. Before we set a post near the water we confirm what applies to your parcel. If a buffer limits the line, we will move the fence rather than build something that has to come out.
Half my back line is in the trees. What does that involve?
Clearing to a working width first, then dealing with the roots. Stumps and major root systems dictate where a post can physically go, so on a wooded rear line the spacing sometimes has to flex. We shoot the line so it still reads straight and we hand-dig around anything structural. We will tell you at the estimate how much clearing the job actually needs.
Will a fence keep deer out?
Partly, and it depends on height and sight lines. Deer pressure out here is real, and they will not jump into an enclosure they cannot see into, so a solid privacy fence does more than an open ornamental one at the same height. If the goal is protecting a garden specifically, a dedicated enclosure around the plot usually beats fencing the whole yard.
Do you come this far out for a small job?
Yes. Browns Summit is a short run north of Greensboro and it is regular territory for our crews, not an exception we make. The estimate is free and there is no minimum footage we insist on before we will come look at it.
