McLeansville Fence Installation

McLeansville is farm country that happens to sit a short drive east of Greensboro. Along US 70 and the roads running off it you find working land, older homesteads, newer houses on a few acres, and a lot of properties where the fence has an actual job to do rather than a decorative one. The common thread on rural parcels is that the fence has to survive contact. Livestock push on it, equipment passes through it, and it runs distances that make any weakness obvious. That puts the emphasis on layout and post work rather than on picket detail. We shoot the line rather than pacing it, we set corner, brace, and gate posts heavier than the line posts, and we size gates for the largest thing that will realistically pass through them. A pasture fence that fails almost always fails at a corner or a gate, not in the middle of a run.

Around the house the requirements change. A wood privacy fence to define a yard, or chain link to give the dogs a safe area without cutting off the view of the land, covers most of what people ask for. Neither has to be elaborate. It has to be square, plumb, and set deep.

Clay, water, and the low ground

East Guilford clay holds water the way the rest of the Piedmont does, and rural parcels tend to have more low ground than a graded subdivision lot. Those wet spots are where fences fail. Water sitting against a post through a January freeze expands and jacks it upward, and after enough cycles the line starts to wander. Every post here goes into concrete at proper depth, deeper where the ground stays soft. Summer brings humidity and thunderstorms that push hard on anything solid, the remnants of tropical systems occasionally reach this far inland, and the ice storms that come through every few winters load a top rail with more weight than the design assumed. Footings carry the whole thing.
