Greensboro Fence Installation

Greensboro is the largest city in the Triad and the fencing reflects that. There is no single Greensboro house. A 1920s bungalow near Fisher Park with a detached garage and an alley behind it needs a completely different plan than a five-year-old build off Horse Pen Creek Road sitting on a graded pad with a covenant attached. We install across all of it, from the streets inside the loop out through Guilford College, north past Lake Jeanette, and southwest through Sedgefield and Grandover.

The old neighborhoods and the new ones fence differently

The older sections were laid out when lots were narrow and side yards were tight. Fisher Park, Sunset Hills, College Hill, Westerwood, and Lindley Park all have mature hardwoods, shallow-sloped yards, and detached structures that the fence has to work around rather than through. Fisher Park and College Hill are inside locally designated historic districts, so what goes up there gets more scrutiny than it would elsewhere in town. Board-on-board and shadow-box wood tend to suit those homes, and they have the added benefit of looking the same from both sides. North and northwest Greensboro is a different problem. Adams Farm, Lake Jeanette, Reedy Fork, and the newer construction along Brassfield and Horse Pen Creek were platted with covenants from the start, which usually means an approved height, a required finish orientation, and sometimes a required color. We put the submittal package together, wait for approval, and then schedule the build.

Red clay decides how the fence ages

Everything here sits on heavy Piedmont red clay. Clay does not drain, it holds water, and water that sits against a post through a freeze pushes upward on it. That is the mechanism behind most of the leaning fences you see around town, and it is why we set every post in concrete rather than tamped soil. Summer brings humid heat and the kind of thunderstorms that hit a solid privacy panel like a sail, and every few years the remnants of a tropical system come through with sustained wind. Then in January or February an ice storm loads the top rail with weight nobody planned for. Post depth and picket attachment are what carry a fence through all of that.

Wood is still the workhorse in Greensboro, particularly on older lots where a stained privacy fence matches the house. Vinyl has taken over much of the new construction, and PrivacyLock interlocking panels give a solid line with no staining and no rot at the ground. Ornamental aluminum finished with SolarShield holds its color through the summers and suits lots that back to a pond, a common area, or a greenway where you would rather keep the view.
