The Yadkin River separates Jonesville from Elkin, and the two towns have functioned as neighbors across the water for a long time. Jonesville sits on the Yadkin County side, with US 21 running through and the interstate exit bringing traffic past, and the town holds a mix that is unusual for this end of the county: established residential streets and newer housing alongside genuine farm ground just outside the limits.

Fence work here splits accordingly. In town it is standard residential work, mostly six-foot privacy fence behind the house, picket at the front, dog enclosures, and replacement of runs that have been leaning since the last hard winter. The soil here is the slow-draining Piedmont clay found across the region, and Jonesville has enough grade that water moves through it downhill and collects at the bottom of a run. A post tamped into that ground leans, and the freeze-and-thaw cycle finishes the job. Every post we set goes into a concrete footing below the disturbed layer. Winter is the harder test this far northwest. Ice storms load a fence line with weight it was not designed for and bring limbs out of the tree line onto it, and a properly footed post is the difference between replacing a rail and rebuilding a section.
