East Bend takes its name from the turn the Yadkin River makes below the town, and the river has defined the place since long before it was a town. The Shallow Ford crossing near here was the way people got over the Yadkin for generations. Part of our land is river bottom that floods. Should we fence it?

Usually not at the water's edge. A fence built across ground that takes moving water will catch debris and eventually come out, and rebuilding it every few years costs more than placing it sensibly the first time. We will look at where the water actually goes, recommend holding the line back onto ground that stays put, and explain the trade-off before you decide.

We keep llamas and alpacas rather than horses. Does that change the fence?

It does. Camelids are less hard on a fence than horses but they need mesh that a head cannot get through and enough height that a startled animal does not try it. Can you fence a hillside pasture?
