Fence Installation in High Point, NC
High Point built itself around furniture, and the city still runs on that calendar. Twice a year the Market brings the industry in, showrooms open downtown, and half the neighborhoods near the center of town turn into short-term housing for a week. The rest of the year it is a working city with an unusually wide range of housing, and that range is exactly what makes fence work here interesting.
A city built in layers
The mill-era streets close in have small lots, tight setbacks, and older detached garages. Emerywood on the north side has deep lots, mature canopy, and homes where a fence has to look deliberate rather than defensive. The Montlieu and university side runs heavily toward rentals and smaller yards where a straightforward wood privacy fence does the job. Then there is the newer growth out toward Skeet Club, Deep River, and the northwest edge of the city, where subdivisions were platted with covenants and the neighbors all built to the same height. Each of those calls for a different answer, and we do not try to sell the same fence into all four.
Grade, water, and Piedmont clay
Much of High Point sits on rolling ground that drains toward Oak Hollow and the creeks feeding it, which means a lot of yards here have real slope. Slope is not a problem, but it has to be planned. Racking the panels to follow grade keeps the bottom tight to the ground so nothing digs underneath. Where the drop is sharp we step the fence and address the gaps deliberately. Underneath all of it is red clay that holds water rather than shedding it. A post sitting in saturated clay through a hard freeze gets pushed upward, and repeated cycles are what eventually tilt a fence line. Concrete footings set to depth are the fix, and they matter more here than the brand on the pickets. Add the summer thunderstorms, the occasional tropical remnant coming up from the coast, and the ice storms that load a top rail in midwinter, and the post work becomes the whole ballgame.
Materials that fit the housing stock
Vinyl is the most requested privacy fence in the newer sections of the city. PrivacyLock panels lock together for a solid line, they do not rot at the ground, and they never need staining, which suits homeowners who do not want a maintenance project. Wood still fits the older neighborhoods better, particularly board-on-board and shadow-box builds that read the same from both sides and match the age of the house. Ornamental aluminum with a SolarShield finish is the choice where you want the yard defined without losing the view, and it is what most pool enclosures end up being. StayStrong pickets keep long runs rigid, and the HeartWood wood-look finish is there if you want the appearance of stained wood without the upkeep.

High Point Fence Questions
Can you work around High Point Market?
Yes, and we plan for it. Market runs twice a year and the whole city fills up, traffic changes, and a lot of homeowners are either hosting buyers or renting the house out. Tell us at the estimate if your dates matter and we will schedule the install before or after so there is no crew in your yard the week you need the driveway clear.
My lot slopes down toward Oak Hollow. How does the fence handle that?
Two ways, and we will show you both on site. Racked fencing follows the grade so the pickets stay vertical and the rails tilt with the slope, which leaves no gaps underneath. Stepped fencing keeps each panel level and drops in increments, which looks more formal but leaves triangles at the bottom that some people fill and some do not. On a steady grade we usually rack. On a sharp drop we usually step.
I have old chain link from the previous owner. Can you replace it with vinyl?
That is a common job here, especially on the older streets. We pull and haul the existing chain link, deal with the old post footings, and set new posts on a line that suits the yard rather than wherever the previous fence happened to run. It is a good moment to move a gate, square up a corner, or reclaim a few feet that were never fenced properly.
Do the big trees in Emerywood cause a problem?
They add work but rarely stop the job. The older north-side streets have deep lots, established hardwoods, and root systems that spread well past the trunk. We hand-dig around major roots and adjust post spacing where we need to. What we will not do is cut through a structural root to save time, because that hurts the tree and does nothing for the fence.
